Pocket Change –
micro-grants that help build
Since 2018, SWBID has partnered with the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly (SWNA) to host Pocket Change — a $1000 micro-grant competition that highlights and funds remarkable ideas for the Southwest community.
From starting book clubs to disrupting violence, Pocket Change is a crowdfunded micro-grant designed to enhance our community with ideas from Southwest for Southwest.
2022 Winner: Eat Your Greens
SW Gardens CSA & Nutrition Workshops
The Southwest Community Gardens’ (SCG) mission is to create spaces where neighbors can connect and grow produce in a hands-on, peaceful, and respectful environment. In tending to vegetables, fruits, and other plants, the SCG inspires members to learn more about agriculture, the nutritional benefits and enjoyment of fresh produce, and nurtures lasting bonds between neighbors.
The goal is to provide public housing residents with access to healthy food and cooking resources by expanding Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) to 10 households, hire three farmhands from Greenleaf to prepare produce and make deliveries once a week seasonally, and conduct three cooking demos for Greenleaf Seniors.
2021 Winners:
